The officials of the State Land Reforms Department have come under fire for the illegal occupation of government lands in West Bengal. The West Bengal government has transferred 180 Block Land Record Officers (BLROs) and several revenue officers.
The move came within a week of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressing strong displeasure over allegations of corruption in the department and instructing strict action. An official of the department said that the purpose of this transfer is to curb corruption in the department.
A total of 180 BLROs and several revenue officers have been transferred. According to the transfer order, these officers will be relieved of their current duty by July 12 and join the new department.
Necessary instructions have been sent to the District Magistrates. It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's office received complaints of encroachment on government land.
